One-A-Day Fun in the Bay Area

rubber ducky race

I’ve been reading about how the drought has effected summer fun in various California locales. Some campsites have closed, the famous Rubber Ducky Race in Livermore couldn’t take place because a favorite stream dried up (they moved it to a local high school swimming pool), boat launches in Pleasanton’s Shadow Cliffs are seeing their boats moving closer and closer to the lake bottom,  and even at the luxurious Hearst Castle flush toilets are closed due to the water shortage.

That’s why the BABeat’s Monday Funday report is so important.  Here you’ll find cheap, free fun that’s not water-dependent.  Let’s see what we’ve got for this week.

FRIDAY JULY 18TH

A Tale of Two Cities

I have two “hometowns”.   Kensington, my current residence, was where I began my life.  My parents owned a home on Trinity and I attended the Hilltop School just as my three kids did.

They attended school there all six years, but my folks moved their young family from Kensington to Orinda where they bought a model home on Overhill Road in the Glorietta school district.

I spent most of my  young life in Orinda, and my parents lived there well into their old age.  I know this community well.

However, most of my adult life (so far) I’ve spent living in near the Bay, mainly in Kensington.  I know this community equally well.

Both Kensington and Orinda are great places to live, and I consider both cities my hometown.

That’s why I am so happy to announce that I brought in the buyers for these two wonderful homes, one located in Kensington and one located in Orinda.  It’s great to know that two lovely families will enjoy the delights of living in my hometowns.

Monday 1-A-Day Fun for the Bay Area

El-PresidioIllustration620x390-550x314

I hope your 4th of July was terrific.  It’s often the main event for  many of us in the  Summer, and that’s as it should be because this holiday has it all.  First, most of us get the time off work.  Second, People generally get together as a family with parties large or small; or they head for  day-long festivals most of which include barbeque, beer, dancing, music, and games. To top it off, of course, there are huge firework displays!
Finding things to do that don’t feel like a let-down after the forth is difficult, but let’s see what fun FREE events we can dig up this week.

TUESDAY JULY 8TH
56 cent Pancake Day at iHop

WEDNESDAY JULY 9TH
Ode to Frida Kahlo at Cliff’s Variety in SF

THURSDAY JULY 10TH
Witness  an Archeological Dig in action at Pershing Square

FRIDAY JULY 11TH
Soul Concert at Crab Cove in Alameda

SATURDAY JULY 12TH
Pride & Prejudice: Free outdoor play in Berkeley

SUNDAY JULY 13TH
Japan Day Festival in Japantown

I know, no real sparklers here, but a lot of variety, which is a hallmark of the Bay Area.  If none of these appeal to you, there’s always the WORLD CUP!  In any case, enjoy your week!

This Week’s One A Day (Mostly FREE) Fun in the Bay Area

train your dragon

It’s good to have a daughter who loves animation. She’s a budding artist and appreciates the skills and talents of the manga and anime world, as well as American offerings like Dreamworks and, very locally, Pixar Studios.

Having a person with this interest in the family means I can still go to movies like “How to Train Your Dragon II” and hold my head high.
I see it as an artistic pursuit.

Sure, maybe I wept a little at one particularly touching point in the film, but that’s a testimony to how well-done the animation was, right?

I think so too.

Anyway, let’s see what other (mostly FREE) activities–besides great movies–there are this week in the Bay Area:

TUESDAY JUNE 24TH
Alameda County Fair 2$ Tuesday
WEDNESDAY JUNE 25TH
The Flight Deck in Oakland‘s Theater Summer Reading Series
THURSDAY JUNE 26TH
USA vs Germany World Cup Viewing Party
FRIDAY JUNE 27TH
The Emerald Tablet presents reading performances in North Beach
SATURDAY JUNE 28TH
Comedy Showcase and Dance party At Pappy’s in Berkeley
SUNDAY JUNE 29TH
PickleWater Free Circus at Union Square

Have Fun!

If you’d love to live in this amazing area, I’d be honored to help. I’ll set up a system for you called REAlert that will search MLS real estate–using requirements tailored to your individual needs.
