Elections: When Having Fun is REALLY IMPORTANT

thank-heaven-for-little-girls-statuary-in-nancys-garden2

It’s easy to get dismayed by the tenor of the times during election years. The negatives in life are explored in great detail. Divisions in people and ideologies are enhanced and highlighted. What’s going wrong and what we need to be afraid of is stressed. Life doesn’t seem worth living, yet we know it is. Early this morning, for instance, I discovered that two friends became grandparents. A healthy baby was born. Young parents discovered a new kind of fierce love. You know that this isn’t news, it’s life, and thank goodness. News shocks us. Daily life runs the gamut from boring to exhilarating, but it rarely shocks. So it’s important when we’re asked to focus on the negative side of life to look for ways to feel good. Here’s some fun local activities that might help you do just that.

TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 27TH

Short films you can sing along to in Albany

WEDNESDAY SEPTEMBER 28TH

ENJOY!

Remember, too, if you’re thinking of selling your home, there’s still time to list it before the end of the year. 2016 has been a banner year for home sales, but we don’t know what 2017 will bring. Right now, home prices are still high and inventory is low. Call me and let’s talk about ways we can market your property for top dollar.

I’d love to help you buy or sell an East Bay home. It would be my pleasure.

If you’re moving to another area, I can refer you to a trustworthy Coldwell Banker agent wherever you want or need to go in the US or the world. Coldwell Banker is an international real estate company.

Just call me.  I’m easy to get a hold of.  As so many of us do, I carry my office with me wherever I go, so phone or text 510-418-1306  and you’ll probably reach me. I’m never too busy to take care of you– or your referrals–and I’ll make sure you’re glad you called.

Get to know me! Check me out on facebook or linkedIn.

If you want to get a feel for what’s going on in the East Bay Real Estate market check out my My Web Site to discover homes on the market–neighborhood by neighborhood–almost as soon as they’re posted on the MLS!

SIX SPECIAL BAY AREA EVENTS THIS WEEK

ECHill hike

One of the main reasons I present these lists of events is simply this: I get a chance to explore the various goings on in the many Bay Area neighborhoods. It helps me understand more fully the experience of living here, and the reason so many people want to live here. There’s not just a lot to do, there’s a sense of community pride in these festivals,  attractions and events.  To me, it shows how much there is to admire and enjoy about the Bay Area and the reason it’s as great as it is: the people who make it a joy to live here.

Six Special Bay Area Events This Week, NO FOOLIN’!

botanical garden
Berkeley Botanical Garden

March is going out like the proverbial lamb after a rainy, leonine beginning.  El Nino did much of what was promised. The flowers abound, bringing cheerful bursts of color to the hillsides (and local gardens), the reservoirs are filling up, and the snow levels near Lake Tahoe are pretty much where they should be.

Still, we need to conserve our water reserves just in case, but for now let’s celebrate the joy of the season with some special Spring activities.

Here’s this weeks list of activities around the Bay Area.

TUESDAY MARCH 29TH
If you love poetry, imagery, and activism, head to Oakland

WEDNESDAY MARCH 30TH
Herons: find out more about these beautiful birds at Stow Lake

THURSDAY MARCH 31ST

FRIDAY APRIL 1ST

SATURDAY APRIL 2ND

SUNDAY APRIL 3RD

Six Special Bay Area Events This Week

carriage rides in Emeryville
Carriage rides in Emeryville

After a brief hiatus, I’m back to writing about Bay Area Events.

Why? Because there’s something so quintessential about the variety of things to do here. To me, they seem to represent the diversity of lifestyles available when you live here.

For folks who dream of moving here, or for those who just moved in or have lived here for years, I want to present a little taste of what’s available–sometimes for kids but mostly for adults–that continue to make make life in this community sweet, enjoyable and a lot of fun.

Here’s some activities I discovered going on March 22 thru the 27th:

TUESDAY MARCH 22

People’s Park: A discussion
It was famous in the ‘60s and still in the news today. Learn more about its past and possible future.

WEDNESDAY MARCH 23

Full Moon Tibetan Chanting in Berkeley
Finding inner peace through mantra

THURSDAY MARCH 24TH

Emeryville gets romantic
Horse Drawn Carriage Rides in Emeryville

FRIDAY MARCH 25TH

Dance-off at the Independent Brewing Company
Fine small batch brews and dance moves

SATURDAY MARCH 26th

Zeitgeist Day
Berkeley festival supporting a sustainable, peaceful global society

SUNDAY MARCH 27th

Treasure Island Flea
A grown-up version of an Easter Egg hunt.

If you’re looking to buy or sell an East Bay home, I can help you on both sides of the table. If you’re wanting to move to another area, I can refer you to a trustworthy Coldwell Banker agent wherever you go. Coldwell Banker is an international real estate company.

LOVING THE EAST BAY ON VALENTINE’S DAY

two-hearts-and-flowers-871297272347uFI

There’s a lot to love in the Bay Area, and judging by the crowds at the recent open houses, a LOT of people are recognizing the desirability of living in the Bay Area. To find out what folks other than myself are saying about this terrific area, and in honor of Valentine’s Day, I googled “Things to love about the Bay Area” and I got a photo gallery, some city related sites like “35 reasons to move to Oakland“, “Why I love Richmond California“, and one called “26 things the Bay Area does right” (certainly there’s more than that!)

Among the many things I love about the Bay Area are the unique and/or multi-cultural ways to celebrate almost any holiday. Here’s a short list of activities that could add some all-important spice and variety to your Valentine’s Day if you’re tired of the traditional hearts and flowers.

Whatever you end up doing, I hope you enjoy yourself in our beautiful Bay Area and that your Valentine’s Day everything you hope it will be!

Join my team if you’re looking to buy or sell an East Bay home!

Giving Thanks and Giving Back

Jackets on signposts

Looking around at all the opportunities to work and play in the East Bay, and at how abundantly many of us live, it’s clear that we have a lot to be thankful for.  So much so that it’s sometimes easy to forget that we aren’t all equally blessed with the what-it-takes to do whatever-we-want.  There are many who are just scraping by, who are without income, home, food, clothing, hope.

Our society at large struggles to find ways of addressing this huge problem. Lately, on social medial, I’ve seen ideas that help in a small way. There’s the coat on a signpost idea (see the photo), where you leave a coat on a signpost with a note saying that the coat is not lost, it’s a free coat for anyone who needs warm clothing.

I like this idea.  It’s simple, and not embarrassing for either the giver or receiver.  No judgement or assumptions involved. If you’re cold and need a coat, here’s one.  If not, let someone else have it. Maybe leave some bills in the pocket as an extra surprise.

Another idea is something called “Handbags for the Homeless” which, at first blush, looked like a good notion, but after a little research I decided that it might not be the best use of our extra cash. Here is the blog that describes the program and sums up my misgivings about “Handbags for the Homeless” pretty well.  After reading it, I decided it was best to give a few bucks instead.

If you can’t or would rather not do that, you can give some of your time. Thanksgiving  for many has become an opportunity to give back by providing service to those less fortunate. To that end, and because most of us are too busy getting ready for the holidays to need my usual, weekly list of things to do, click here to find a list of ways to volunteer your time to help others in the Bay Area.

However you spend the holidays, I’m wishing you and yours the happiest of Thanksgivings.

If you’d like to use your holiday time off to begin the process of selling or buying a home, give me a call. I’m easy to contact.  As so many of us do, I carry my office with me wherever I go, so phone 510-527-0174.  and you’ll probably reach me. I’m never too busy to take care of you– or your referrals–and I’ll make sure you’re glad you called.

What’s Next: The Good, the Bad, & the Ugly. . .and then there’s HALLOWEEN

whitches

Let’s start with the ugly first: Cal’s disappointing loss. Mistake after mistake. There’s so much potential in this team, it’s sad to see their lack of poise on a big stage. Hope they improve. They certainly have the potential.

The bad:  Niner’s performance: Can’t tackle, one (injured) runner of quality, can’t put together a passing game to save their lives, and they STILL don’t call it a building year. They didn’t even make it to the “ugly” standard, since ugly means there could be improvement. Bad is the better description.

The GOOD: What a terrifically cool surprise! the Raiders over San Diego! An absolutely fun game to watch, especially soothing after the painful losses of the two other local teams on Thursday.

Another way to ease football disappointment is to find something else to do to keep ourselves focused on the good stuff. . .like treats!  Here’s a short list of terrific Halloween activities right here in the Bay Area.

TUESDAY  OCTOBER 27TH
Dia de Los Muertos festival in Berkeley

WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 28th
Walk on the Dark Side at Alameda’s Forbidden Island

THURSDAY OCTOBER 28TH
“Haunted Hornet” Ghost Stalk and Tour

FRIDAY OCTOBER THE 30TH
Zombie Pub Crawl in the Mission

SATURDAY OCTOBER THE 31ST
Annual Halloween Hoopla at the Yerba Buena Gardens

SUNDAY  NOVEMBER 1ST
Recover from Candy Overload.

Happy Halloween!!

What’s Next: Cooler Days and Cooler Free Fun

harvest moon

This morning we woke to the cool comfort of a soft gray fog. The days previous have been unseasonably warm, but now as we move into Autumn–accompanied by the incredible beauty of an eclipse of the full harvest moon–we in the Bay Area are getting ready for fall.
Many homeowners are preparing for the predicted El Nino rains and are cleaning gutters and patching roofs.  Gardeners are mulching the drought resultant bare spots in the garden to prevent soil erosion, and downslope hill homeowners are stocking up on sandbags to keep potential floodwater from their property.

No matter where we are, every Californian has their fingers crossed for rainy winter, and by our actions we’re hoping to create a wet result.  But as they say, all work and no play make Jack a dull boy, so let’s see what free fun is in store for us this week!

TUESDAY SEPT 28TH
Lemony Snicket’s final release party

WEDNESDAY SEPT 29TH
Michael Jackson Tribute Concert in Albany

THURSDAY SEPT 30TH
