What’s Next: Bad Day Remedy? Free Fun!

Morning-sucks---cat-meme

Some days you just don’t want to get out of bed.  No reason, except no reason.  The day-to-day that was satisfying and comfortable last week now seems dull and discouraging.

Bad days happen, and when they do it’s important to remember something my mother, and probably everybody’s mother, said: “This, too, will pass”.

And, remarkably, it does. A surprise phone call from an old friend,  terrific news from an offspring, a walk beside the bay with your significant other, or just a great meal out can be all you need.  These softly cheerful things can so often improve one’s day.

That’s why I love posting these weekly notices of local free fun. Finding something interesting or fun to do when you’re feeling low can be a real mood changer–and when you change your mood, you change your life.

So here’s today’s list of fun, FREE activities around our beautiful Bay Area:

TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 1
Lots of free museum entries today, and here’s a list of many of them.

WEDNESDAY SEPTEMBER 2
Free admission to the San Francisco Zoo

THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 3
Free salsa dance lessons in Emeryville

FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 4
Oakland’s First Friday block party

SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 5
BART’s Transbay Tube is CLOSED. Here’s how to get across the Bay.

SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 6
Sunday Matinee at the Starry Plow in Berkeley

Hope any or all of these are merry mood changers for you if need be, and just plain good entertainment if not. In any case, Have a great week, and remember me if you’re looking for a Real Estate Agent.  Give me a call if you’re thinking of  buying or selling a home, and for any and all of your other real estate needs.  Just phone 510-527-0174 .  I’m never too busy to take care of you– or your referrals–and I’ll make sure you’re glad you called.

What’s Next: Picnic in a Stable & Free Fun 4 YOU.

goldenrolling

Our extended clan got together in Livermore last weekend for a cousin reunion.  Everyone brought (delicious) food, there was  barbecue and lemonade provided,  and photos of past and present family events adorned the walls.  A video included our parents (who are no longer physically with us but certainly with us in spirit) which expanded and enhanced the family-feeling.

And all this took place in the training area of a stable.

Yes, It took a barn to hold us and keep all of us protected from the blazing hot sun outside–yet the high ceilings and wide open doorways framing gorgeous views of  California’s famous golden rolling hills and blue, blue sky made for an unforgettably pleasant open-air experience.

All and all, it was great fun seeing how our family has grown and comparing notes about life in California and beyond.

More locally, and speaking of fun, here’s a short list of free fun activities in the Bay Area this week.

One-A-Day Fun in the Bay Area

Are you a pet lover? Especially cats? Then you’ll like this

cat town cafe

Our family has four cats, much to the annoyance of our single dog.  All of our pets are rescued animals, so I was fascinated to see a new place in Oakland dedicated to cat adoptions, coffee, and cookies.

It’s called the “Cat Town Cafe”  and it’s a combo cat rescue and cafe. Here perspective cat owners can enjoy a snack while they’re looking over the likely cats available for adoption.  The Cat Town Cafe just opened in October 26th and if you’d like to visit it’s on the corner of 29th and Broadway in Oakland.

Four Paws Up and MORE POWER TO THEM.  I hope they’re wildly successful.

And now, let’s take a look at some free (or deeply cheap) fun activities available this week in the Bay Area

TUESDAY NOVEMBER 11TH
Veterans Day Celebration at the Presidio

WEDNESDAY NOVEMBER 12TH
Italian Movie Night in Berkeley

THURSDAY NOVEMBER 13TH
Lazar thrill ride at the Embarcadero ($2.00)

FRIDAY NOVEMBER 14TH
Estuary Art Attack in Alameda

SATURDAY NOVEMBER 15TH
Monthly Kid Stuff Swap in Oakland

SUNDAY NOVEMBER 16TH
Golden Gate Park Roller Disco Party

As always, wishing you a great time in the Bay Area!

And don’t forget: if you, your friends or relatives are interested in specific information from a local agent about buying or selling a home in the Berkeley Area,  give me a call at 510-527-0174.  I’m never too busy to take care of you or your referals, and you’ll be glad you did.

Football Season, Pro and Con–I mean Pro and Am

Let's hope he's not kissing this season goodbye.
Let’s hope he’s not kissing this season goodbye.

I caught my first 49er playoff game yesterday and was, well, under impressed.  I’m told playoffs don’t mean anything, but I wonder why? After all, they give us a look at the depth of a team, the training and conditioning they’ve received, and the coaching choices that have been made and how they compare to other team’s playoff performances.  As it stands now, things look pretty sad for our Niners and pretty great for, say, almost everyone else.

And then there’s Cal, my alma mater, and their struggling football force.  If last year’s Cal team and the Niner’s preseason performance have any predictive ability, then I’m looking at a pretty dismal run of Autumn sports entertainment.  We’d better plan to be doing other things.  Here’s this weeks Free Fun in the Bay Area report.

TUESDAY AUGUST 26th
Learn Morris Dancing in Berkeley

WEDNESDAY AUGUST 27th
Movie Night in Berkeley’s Sculpture Garden

One a Day Fun in the Bay Area

USA! USA!

I hope all of you dads enjoyed your Father’s Day. I got spoiled by my family in the morning with presents and coffee and breakfast in bed. In the afternoon my wife and I traveled to San Jose to participate in a Real Estate Seminar today and Tuesday. We’ll be watching the World cup as well. San Jose is a big Soccer town, so we’ll catch team USA vs Ghana at the World Cup 2014 Outdoor Viewing Party and enjoy the noise and fun of excited fans all rooting as one.

Here’s this weeks free fun in the East Bay.

TUESDAY JUNE 16TH
World Cup Viewing all week at the San Francisco Civic Center

WEDNESDAY JUNE 17TH

THURSDAY JUNE 18TH

FRIDAY JUNE 19TH
For you Burning Man people there’s the East Bay Burner Social in Oakland

SATURDAY JUNE 20TH
Perfect for Summer:  Woodies on the Wharf in Santa Cruz

SUNDAY JUNE 21ST
USA vs. Portugal at your nearest sports bar or living room

If you’d love to live in this amazing area, I’d be honored to help. I’ll set up an REAlert system for you that will search MLS real estate using requirements tailored to your individual needs. It’s the best way for you to get a look at first-time-on-the-market properties that meet your specific criteria, AND they’re delivered directly to your email courtesy of Coldwell Banker!

If you’re specifically interested in high walk score homes, click here to find those that are currently on the market in great East Bay neighborhoods.

They Call it Gourmet Ghetto, But it’s Not Just About the Food

Good Times in 94709

The Berkeley Coldwell Banker office is located in one of my favorite zip codes, 94709. In fact, this office location is one of the reasons I became a Coldwell Banker Associate Broker. It’s about the FOOD.  Alice Waters inspired Gourmet Ghetto by creating her famous restaurant Chez Panisse as a reflection of of French Country life.

All the other shops and restaurants in the ghetto have a reputation for choosing their quality goods as carefully as Alice does her produce. It’s a shopper’s paradise and close to some of the nicest homes in one of the most quintessential areas to live in Berkeley.

I mention it today because this Saturday is the 18th annual Chocolate & Chalk Art Festival on Saturday, May 31, 2014. Anyone who has a hunk of chalk (or for $10 you can buy some) can make art on the sidewalks along North Shattuck Avenue and Vine Street.

There’s also music for your enjoyment including The Dylan Platt Band, Lee Waterman Trio, Kathryn Rayne, The Queue, The Elderberries Irish Band, Cathy Morris the Violin Lady, Sean Lee’s One Man Band, Adrian West Trio etc, etc.  For the kids there will be pony rides, inflatable bounce houses, jugglers, face painters and many more surprises.

Come enjoy one of my favorite zip codes at this really fun family event.

Whether you’re moving in or out of  94709, or any other great East Bay Area, I’d be honored to help you.

For SELLERS, I’ll help you prepare and market your home for sale that will give it the widest appeal and best exposure; thus attracting a bevy of buyers and the best chance for multiple offers and competitive bidding. To learn more, go to go to What’s Next Homes.

For BUYERS I’ll set up an REAlert account that will search the MLS real estate site–using requirements that you provide–for properties that meet your needs.  Once found, pictures and details will be delivered directly to your email courtesy of Coldwell Banker!

It’s the best way for you to get a look at first-time-on-the-market properties; and this saves you wasted time and disappointment that happens when you find the perfect home but discover it’s already been sold, a common occurance when using the usual home finding sites like Trulio, Zillow, etc.  They are fun to search, but their information is often out of date. Not so with REAlert.

If you’re specifically interested in high walk score homes, click here to find those that are currently on the market in great East Bay neighborhoods. To learn more, go to go to That House Detective

Or, just give me a call at 510-527-0174.

1-A-Day Fun this week in the Bay Area

5th of May & Every Day Fun

The Cinco de Mayo festival in Richmond has grown in popularity. I regret to say I’ve never been, for Sunday–when they usually hold the celebration whether it’s the 5th of May or not–is a realtor’s busy day.
Each year I’m determined to take a break and enjoy the food, the sights, and the dancing that remind me of the many wonderful trips I’ve taken to Mexico. In fact, right now, just thinking about it fills me with the desire to begin trolling online vacation deals that will take me south of the border once again.

In the meantime, here’s a list of this weeks fun, FREE, or very cheap events right here in the Bay Area.

But first:
DON’T FORGET TO RESERVE YOUR RESTAURANT SEATING EARLY FOR DINNER OR BRUNCH ON MOTHERS DAY!

FRIDAY MAY 9TH
