Have you noticed how nice the weather’s been in the Bay Area lately? Sunny, but with a fresh breeze that keeps us free from the intense heat we experienced in August. It’s finally perfect for outdoor entertainment. We can take longer walks without our dog having to stop every few feet to lay panting on her belly neath a shady tree. This is our Indian Summer, and we cherish it.
Another thing we love locally is the ever-increasing number of completely excellent restaurants. I learned that, joining Berkeley in food madness, is Oakland which is becoming well-known for it’s culinary delights. Did you know that it was named the top U.S. food city in USA today?
I hadn’t realized the Bay Area had become so famous for our foodie culture until I noticed that PBS had a show about it called “A Culinary Journey” describing its evolution. And evolve it has. In my office I’m constantly hearing about great new restaurants emerging here and there around the bay. Add to that, Epicurious is right down the street, offering a variety of snacks to sample and sit down restaurants to enjoy.
Of course, eating out every day, though sometimes a necessity, is hard on the budget when you eat in style, so here’s a list of restaurants around U.C. Berkeley that offer tasty food at low prices. Bon Apetite, and for more bargain fun, let’s check out some of this month’s Bay Area Entertainments:
- First, here are Free Admission Days for local museums usually on First Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays & Sunday.
- The Ghirardelli Chocolate Festival is a favorite for our family.
- There’s lots of Wine and Art festivals all over the Bay area in fall and winter. Here’s a list.
- And, of course, there’s year 41 of the famous Solano Stroll
