Once in a Blue Moon

blue moon

“Once in a blue moon” is a phrase that defines something rare. It’s that thing you never thought would happen, like a chance encounter that leads to love, or that job opportunity that fits you to a “T”, or that home you never thought you’d find now within your reach.

You never know how a dream will come true.

My wife remembers her first trip to Berkeley when she was a young girl. Something about the place captivated her. She loved the “old world” feeling of the campus, the gorgeous homes in the hills, the views of the bay, and tai chi practitioners doing the form on the North Gate lawn.

She knew she had found the home of her dreams but couldn’t imagine this dream coming true;, yet step by step, life lead her here–with a short stint in Sacramento and a slightly longer one in Los Angeles in between.

Her journey back to the Bay Area started with (a once in a blue moon) call from a friend who lived in Berkeley who presented with the opportunity to work at Fantasy Records on Dwight Street. She left L.A. at once.

I ended up working there myself as the installer of their sound system.  I needed business cards, and she was the designer who made them up for me.  After a while we married, and then came three kids and a lifetime later.  We’re now living in a home in the hills with a view of the Bay.

And, by the way, she loves her ongoing Tai Chi practice.

Wherever your dreams lead you, if you need to sell or buy a home in the East Bay to realize them, let me know. I’m happy to help.

Enjoy this evening’s gorgeous blue moon.

Monday’s One-A-Day Fun

The Dawn of Summer

June is the month when our thoughts lightly turn to VACATIONS.  Those of us on a budget welcome fun ideas that don’t cost a lot, so in light of that here’s something I ran across the other day: FREE museum passes courtesy of the Contra Costa County library system.  It’s called “Discover and Go”. It’s a program where you use your library card to reserve free tickets to local participating museums.

This will come in handy for us soon.  My wife and I will be attending a real estate seminar in San Jose mid June. She’s interested in quilting, so we’re going to use her library card to get free admission tickets to the San Jose Museum of Quilts and Textiles.

I’m anticipating a very good Summer.  Let’s begin with this list of free fun for this week.

TUESDAY JUNE 3RD
WEDNESDAY JUNE 4TH
Discovery Museum Free Admission Day
THURSDAY JUNE 5TH
Free First Thursdays at the Berkeley Museum
FRIDAY JUNE 6TH
Jack’s Night Market at Jack London Square
SATURDAY JUNE 7TH
SUNDAY JUNE 8TH
Eats, Beats, and Brews in Downtown Berkeley

Enjoy your first week of  June, and remember: whether you’re moving in or out of this amazing Bay Area, I’d be honored to help.

For SELLERS I will:
  • Help you prepare and market your home for sale
  • Shine up your home boosting “curb appeal”–with your economy in mind
  • Provice access to all the exposure and marketing materials that Coldwell Banker, an international brokerage has available
  • Use my experience to help you decide upon a sensable sales price with the best chance for multiple offers and competitive bidding.
  • Set open homes, showing times and directions with your comfort in mind
  • To learn more, go to go to What’s Next Homes.

1-A-Day Free Fun in the Bay Area

Super Sunday in the East Bay

Sunday was a pretty amazing day. The views from the Berkeley Hills home I was holding open were sparkling clear, and the home itself is lovely.  There were so many eager buyers I wasn’t lonesome at all or lacking in good conversation.  The place was packed. I felt like I was hosting a party, and all this despite, and possibly because of, the wonderful Himalayan Faire that was also taking place at nearby Live Oak Park in Berkeley.

Let’s see what free activities the coming week has in store:

TUESDAY MAY 20TH
Yoga at the Grace Cathedral Labyrinth

WEDNESDAY MAY 21ST
Free Circus Class at Circus Center in SF

THURSDAY MAY 22ND
$5 Night at the Asian Art Museum

FRIDAY MAY 23RD
Bites Off Broadway: Food Truck Block Party in Oakland

SATURDAY MAY 24TH
Free comedy showcase in Pappy’s Bar in Berkeley

SUNDAY MAY 25TH
Carnival Grand Parade in SF

Whether you’re moving in or out of this amazing Bay Area, I’d be honored to help.

For SELLERS, I’ll help you prepare and market your home for sale that will give it the widest appeal and best exposure; thus attracting a bevy of buyers and the best chance for multiple offers and competitive bidding. To learn more, go to go to What’s Next Homes.

For BUYERS I’ll set up an REAlert account that will search the MLS real estate site–using requirements that you provide–for properties that meet your needs.  Once found, pictures and details will be delivered directly to your email courtesy of Coldwell Banker!

It’s the best way for you to get a look at first-time-on-the-market properties; and this saves you wasted time and disappointment that happens when you find the perfect home but discover it’s already been sold, a common occurrence when using the usual home finding sites like Trulio, Zillow, etc.  They are fun to search, but their information is often out of date. Not so with REAlert.

If you’re specifically interested in high walk score homes, click here to find those that are currently on the market in great East Bay neighborhoods. To learn more, go to go to That House Detective

Or, just give me a call at 510-527-0174.

I  believe that we, and our moms, should live rich, full lives everyday, especially in the glorious Bay Area. That’s why I provide you with this verbal perscription of one-a-day fun.

1-A-Day Fun this week in the Bay Area

5th of May & Every Day Fun

The Cinco de Mayo festival in Richmond has grown in popularity. I regret to say I’ve never been, for Sunday–when they usually hold the celebration whether it’s the 5th of May or not–is a realtor’s busy day.
Each year I’m determined to take a break and enjoy the food, the sights, and the dancing that remind me of the many wonderful trips I’ve taken to Mexico. In fact, right now, just thinking about it fills me with the desire to begin trolling online vacation deals that will take me south of the border once again.

In the meantime, here’s a list of this weeks fun, FREE, or very cheap events right here in the Bay Area.
