Elections: When Having Fun is REALLY IMPORTANT

thank-heaven-for-little-girls-statuary-in-nancys-garden2

It’s easy to get dismayed by the tenor of the times during election years. The negatives in life are explored in great detail. Divisions in people and ideologies are enhanced and highlighted. What’s going wrong and what we need to be afraid of is stressed. Life doesn’t seem worth living, yet we know it is. Early this morning, for instance, I discovered that two friends became grandparents. A healthy baby was born. Young parents discovered a new kind of fierce love. You know that this isn’t news, it’s life, and thank goodness. News shocks us. Daily life runs the gamut from boring to exhilarating, but it rarely shocks. So it’s important when we’re asked to focus on the negative side of life to look for ways to feel good. Here’s some fun local activities that might help you do just that.

ENJOY!

Remember, too, if you’re thinking of selling your home, there’s still time to list it before the end of the year. 2016 has been a banner year for home sales, but we don’t know what 2017 will bring. Right now, home prices are still high and inventory is low. Call me and let’s talk about ways we can market your property for top dollar.

I’d love to help you buy or sell an East Bay home. It would be my pleasure.

If you’re moving to another area, I can refer you to a trustworthy Coldwell Banker agent wherever you want or need to go in the US or the world. Coldwell Banker is an international real estate company.

Just call me.  I’m easy to get a hold of.  As so many of us do, I carry my office with me wherever I go, so phone or text 510-418-1306  and you’ll probably reach me. I’m never too busy to take care of you– or your referrals–and I’ll make sure you’re glad you called.

Get to know me! Check me out on facebook or linkedIn.

6 Days of Summer Fun in Uncertain Weather

botanical garden

Visitors to the Bay Area ask me what it’s like to live in a climate that doesn’t have distinctive seasons.  We do too have seasons.  They just get a little mixed up is all.  So far, we’ve had winter days in spring that have slopped over into summer.  Spring came in a few days before summer officially started, then the summer fog rolled in and it felt like winter until about noon when the sun came out and our clothing layers come off. Now we’re looking at falling leaves, cool, foggy nights and mornings, and warm, warm afternoons. The presence of Orb spiders on the bushes and cottontails on the trails announce that autumn is around the corner. But before we pack up our summer clothing, our indian summer, if it’s true to form, will give us some of the hottest days of the year.

That being said, it’s a good idea to plan for both indoor and outdoor fun in the Bay Area, cause you never know what mom nature will be cooking up.  Here’s a few ideas, and bring remember to bring a coat:

TUESDAY AUGUST 9TH
The fabulous Golden Gate Botanical Gardens Free Day.

WEDNESDAY AUGUST 10TH
If you’d like to explore the 60’s here’s the tour for you.

THURSDAY AUGUST 11TH
Stand up comedy night at the Stork Club in Oakland

FRIDAY AUGUST 12TH
Closing party of the Fiesta Fridas Art Show in Oakland

SATURDAY AUGUST 13TH
Biggest Ever Rosie the Riveter Gathering in Richmond

SUNDAY AUGUST 14TH
Oakland Dragon Boat Festival on Lake Merritt

If you enjoy the East Bay as much as I do and want to purchase a home here, give me a call. I love to help home buyers and sellers find a home wherever their hearts call them.

If you’re moving to another area, I can refer you to a trustworthy Coldwell Banker agent wherever you want or need to go in the US or the world. Coldwell Banker is an international real estate company.

SIX SPECIAL BAY AREA EVENTS THIS WEEK

ECHill hike

One of the main reasons I present these lists of events is simply this: I get a chance to explore the various goings on in the many Bay Area neighborhoods. It helps me understand more fully the experience of living here, and the reason so many people want to live here. There’s not just a lot to do, there’s a sense of community pride in these festivals,  attractions and events.  To me, it shows how much there is to admire and enjoy about the Bay Area and the reason it’s as great as it is: the people who make it a joy to live here.

TUESDAY May 10th

WEDNESDAY May 11th

What’s Next: The Good, the Bad, & the Ugly. . .and then there’s HALLOWEEN

whitches

Let’s start with the ugly first: Cal’s disappointing loss. Mistake after mistake. There’s so much potential in this team, it’s sad to see their lack of poise on a big stage. Hope they improve. They certainly have the potential.

The bad:  Niner’s performance: Can’t tackle, one (injured) runner of quality, can’t put together a passing game to save their lives, and they STILL don’t call it a building year. They didn’t even make it to the “ugly” standard, since ugly means there could be improvement. Bad is the better description.

The GOOD: What a terrifically cool surprise! the Raiders over San Diego! An absolutely fun game to watch, especially soothing after the painful losses of the two other local teams on Thursday.

Another way to ease football disappointment is to find something else to do to keep ourselves focused on the good stuff. . .like treats!  Here’s a short list of terrific Halloween activities right here in the Bay Area.

TUESDAY  OCTOBER 27TH
Dia de Los Muertos festival in Berkeley

WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 28th
Walk on the Dark Side at Alameda’s Forbidden Island

THURSDAY OCTOBER 28TH
“Haunted Hornet” Ghost Stalk and Tour

FRIDAY OCTOBER THE 30TH
Zombie Pub Crawl in the Mission

SATURDAY OCTOBER THE 31ST
Annual Halloween Hoopla at the Yerba Buena Gardens

SUNDAY  NOVEMBER 1ST
Recover from Candy Overload.

Happy Halloween!!

What’s Next: Tis the Season to be Spooky plus Bay Area Activities

tombstones

My creative daughter is a tireless seasonal decorator, and every year she provides us with more and different decorations to match each and every celebration.  Recently she transformed our home for Halloween.  Although we’re not in the “haunted house” league yet, she encourages our spook flag to fly with an assortment of outdoor lights, skeletons, spider webs, masks and ghosts designed to alert local parents and kids that OUR home has TREATS.

I remember what fun it was when our kids were of an age to race from house to house–along with an assortment of other little ninja turtles and Disney Princesses–dragging progressively fuller bags of candy.  It seems that the population of trick or treaters has gotten smaller lately, but no matter what, even if only one child shows up, our girl has made sure we’re ready!

Here are some activity treats for you this week. Hope you’re ready!

TUESDAY OCTOBER 20TH
Dia de los Muertos altar exhibition in Oakland

WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 21ST
$1 book sale at the S.F. Library

THURSDAY OCTOBER 22ND
Free Game Night at 924 Gilman in Berkeley

FRIDAY OCTOBER 23RD

There’s No Place Like Home

grizzly peak view

Last week the wife and I took a trip to Monterey.  All the way down we saw the effects of the drought on the stressed trees and other flora from our Bay Area to the other one.  It was a relief when the ocean rolled into view and flowed beside us as we drove south.  Water, even salty water, is a welcome sight in these parched times.

Since we were in the neighborhood, we decided to take in the 17 Mile drive.  Big homes, big views, big, green golf courses, all for a $10 entry fee; yet I thought to myself as I followed the twists and turns of that famous road that Wildcat Canyon and Grizzly Peak were every bit as beautiful.

Once again I realized we live in a wonderful area full of other rich benefits.  It’s ethnically diverse and actively encouraging that diversity,  it’s esthetically diverse with fields, forests, big cities and quiet hamlets, and it’s culturally diverse with world class theater, terrific art, and great restaurants all in easy reach.

Monterey is terrific, and we enjoyed our stay, but there truly is no place like home when you live in the Bay Area. Best of all, every week there’s something new and different to do. Let’s take a look at what’s happening here this week:

TUESDAY OCTOBER 13
Litquake in Yerba Buena Gardens

WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 14
Drum for Rain in Walnut Creek

THURSDAY OCTOBER 15
Relax and enjoy music by the bay at Jack London Square

FRIDAY OCTOBER 16
Computer History Museum Geeky Block Party

SATURDAY OCTOBER 17
Pumpkin Fest at Half Moon Bay

SUNDAY OCTOBER 18
Salsa Sundays every third Sunday in Berkeley

Enjoy yourselves this week, and give me a call if you’re wanting to sell or buy a home in the East Bay.

I’m easy to contact.  As so many of us do, I carry my office with me wherever I go, so phone 510-527-0174.  and you’ll probably reach me. I’m never too busy to take care of you– or your referrals–and I’ll make sure you’re glad you called.

What’s Next? Festivals Galore in the Bay Area

berkeley-vegan-earth-day

Things are getting lively in the Bay Area.  Festivals galore are coming up! This week alone we have the NOW festival, Oakland Veg Week, and Bay Area Dance Week starting up.  The weather has remained gorgeous, so outdoor entertainment is not so hit or miss as it has been in Aprils of yore where it was customary to  wear layers, bring umbrellas and mock tourists shivering in their flowered shirts, bermuda shorts and sleeveless dresses.

However you’re dressed (I’m still wearing layers, thank you very much) I hope you enjoy all the free activities this week.  Here’s a list of a few of them, one for each day.

TUESDAY APRIL 21
NOW festival in the Panhandle: lots of free fun to be had

WEDNESDAY APRIL 22
Save Water. Go Vegan. Oakland Veg Week tells you how.

THURSDAY APRIL 23
Warriors Playoff Parties

FRIDAY APRIL 24
Bay Area Dance Week Opens Today

SATURDAY APRIL 25
Saturday Stroll Oakland Art Walk

SUNDAY APRIL 26
April Sunrise Tour of Muir Woods

I hope you enjoy each and every celebration you’re lucky enough to  have.

If you’re thinking of selling and/or buying a home in the beautiful East Bay, don’t hesitate to call me for this, and all your other real estate needs at 510-527-0174 , I’m never too busy to take care of you– or your referrals–and I’ll make you glad you called.

What’s Next: Marching into Fun

lion-dance

I just noticed that marching is a March feature.

Traditionally, metaphoric Lions march in and Lambs march out during this month–and this year you’ll see both if you watch the Lion Dancers marching in the San Francisco Chinese New Year’s Parade, because this year we’re celebrating the Year of the Ram.

You can also watch Irish, and Irish lovers,  march in the annual St. Patrick’s day Parade as well.

Or you can march to a distant drummer and do your own thing.  I hope this week’s list of free fun in the Bay Area will provide you with some inspiration.

TUESDAY MARCH 3RD
Free admission to many museums around the bay. Here’s a List.

WEDNESDAY MARCH 4TH
Your last chance to see the tall ships in Jack London Square

THURSDAY MARCH 5TH
Say Good-by to the Bay Lights & hear the artist speak

FRIDAY MARCH 6TH
First Friday Shorts at the Parkway

SATURDAY MARCH 7TH
Sick Plant Clinic at the UC Botanical Gardens

SUNDAY MARCH 8TH
Chinatown Street Fair

As you might expect, the year of the Ram is good for Real Estate. Want proof? Here’s a quote from FORTUNE, an online publication: about the economy in the year of the Sheep: “Earth industries will be stable, consistent performers, including businesses that deal with real estate”.

Hear that, you  East Bay home sellers? Even if it wasn’t the year of the Sheep,  this would still be a golden time to sell your home! Demand is high, and inventory and mortgages are low.  It can’t last forever, you know, so give me a call and let’s talk!

If you’re looking for a home in this amazing area, I can help you strategize for a successful purchase.

Call me for all your real estate needs at 510-527-0174 , I’m never too busy to take care of you– or your referrals–and I’ll make you glad you called.
