What’s Next: Why Write about Budget Bay Area Fun?

Some have asked me why I write a blog about Bay Area Fun on a budget.  I’m a real estate broker, after all.  Why not stick to writing about real estate? There are a couple of reasons.

The first is actually Real Estate related.  I’m gathering information for out -of-towners who are looking for a home in the Bay Area. They want to know what’s going on, what kind of entertainment and enjoyments they can expect when they come to live here.  I want to be able to tell them what’s available and how rich and full life around the Bay can be.

The second is an attempt on my part to help with the old budget.  Living in the Bay Area is an expensive proposition.  I want to  provide folks with an array of free or cheap events available, that are also interesting, exciting and really fun.

Speaking of which, here’s this week’s list of inexpensive treats in and around the Bay Area:

Enjoy serene beauty at a Free day in the SF Botanical Garden

$2 Tickets  for the Oakland A’s Game

FREE movie night at the Orinda Theater

Watch Women’s World Cup Soccer at the SF Civic Center

Tour Andy Goldsworthy’s amazing sculptures at the Presidio

FINAL DAY of the ProArts East Bay Open Studio

Fun Without the Fat: Monday One A Day Fun Day

Wayne Thiebau
Wayne Thiebaud

Many of the restaurants in Napa are know for their fine food and gorgeous presentations.  Desserts in this land of Wine and Money are memorable, but also way too hard on the waistline.
You can, however, wallow in deliciousness without adding a pound if you head for the Napa Valley Museum in Yountville.  There you can indulge in the sight of 100 of Wayne Thiebaud’s works on paper, many appealing to our taste buds as well as our eyes with his lucious representations of fruits, vegetables and desserts.  See the art and subject matter that launched the artist to his current fame.  There is a price of admission (only $3.50 for seniors) so those of you with a taste for FREE FUN will appreciate the following selections:

TUESDAY August 19th
Free sneak preview of “When The Game Stands Tall”

WEDNESDAY August 20th
Free Astronomy Lecture at the Randall Museum

THURSDAY August 21st
Third Thursday Piedmont Avenue Stroll

FRIDAY August 22nd
Taiko Drumming at the Hotel Nikko in SF

SATURDAY August 23rd
Annual Oakland Chinatown Street Fest

SUNDAY August 24th

Enjoy your week in the beautiful Bay Area!

Monday’s One-A-Day Fun

The Dawn of Summer

June is the month when our thoughts lightly turn to VACATIONS.  Those of us on a budget welcome fun ideas that don’t cost a lot, so in light of that here’s something I ran across the other day: FREE museum passes courtesy of the Contra Costa County library system.  It’s called “Discover and Go”. It’s a program where you use your library card to reserve free tickets to local participating museums.
This will come in handy for us soon.  My wife and I will be attending a real estate seminar in San Jose mid June. She’s interested in quilting, so we’re going to use her library card to get free admission tickets to the San Jose Museum of Quilts and Textiles.

I’m anticipating a very good Summer.  Let’s begin with this list of free fun for this week.

Discovery Museum Free Admission Day
Free First Thursdays at the Berkeley Museum
Jack’s Night Market at Jack London Square
Eats, Beats, and Brews in Downtown Berkeley
