Elections: When Having Fun is REALLY IMPORTANT

thank-heaven-for-little-girls-statuary-in-nancys-garden2

It’s easy to get dismayed by the tenor of the times during election years. The negatives in life are explored in great detail. Divisions in people and ideologies are enhanced and highlighted. What’s going wrong and what we need to be afraid of is stressed. Life doesn’t seem worth living, yet we know it is. Early this morning, for instance, I discovered that two friends became grandparents. A healthy baby was born. Young parents discovered a new kind of fierce love. You know that this isn’t news, it’s life, and thank goodness. News shocks us. Daily life runs the gamut from boring to exhilarating, but it rarely shocks. So it’s important when we’re asked to focus on the negative side of life to look for ways to feel good. Here’s some fun local activities that might help you do just that.

Remember, too, if you’re thinking of selling your home, there’s still time to list it before the end of the year. 2016 has been a banner year for home sales, but we don’t know what 2017 will bring. Right now, home prices are still high and inventory is low. Call me and let’s talk about ways we can market your property for top dollar.

I’d love to help you buy or sell an East Bay home. It would be my pleasure.

If you’re moving to another area, I can refer you to a trustworthy Coldwell Banker agent wherever you want or need to go in the US or the world. Coldwell Banker is an international real estate company.

Just call me.  I’m easy to get a hold of.  As so many of us do, I carry my office with me wherever I go, so phone or text 510-418-1306  and you’ll probably reach me. I’m never too busy to take care of you– or your referrals–and I’ll make sure you’re glad you called.

Get to know me! Check me out on facebook or linkedIn.

6 Days of Summer Fun in Uncertain Weather

botanical garden

Visitors to the Bay Area ask me what it’s like to live in a climate that doesn’t have distinctive seasons.  We do too have seasons.  They just get a little mixed up is all.  So far, we’ve had winter days in spring that have slopped over into summer.  Spring came in a few days before summer officially started, then the summer fog rolled in and it felt like winter until about noon when the sun came out and our clothing layers come off. Now we’re looking at falling leaves, cool, foggy nights and mornings, and warm, warm afternoons. The presence of Orb spiders on the bushes and cottontails on the trails announce that autumn is around the corner. But before we pack up our summer clothing, our indian summer, if it’s true to form, will give us some of the hottest days of the year.

That being said, it’s a good idea to plan for both indoor and outdoor fun in the Bay Area, cause you never know what mom nature will be cooking up.  Here’s a few ideas, and bring remember to bring a coat:

TUESDAY AUGUST 9TH
The fabulous Golden Gate Botanical Gardens Free Day.

WEDNESDAY AUGUST 10TH
If you’d like to explore the 60’s here’s the tour for you.

THURSDAY AUGUST 11TH
Stand up comedy night at the Stork Club in Oakland

FRIDAY AUGUST 12TH
Closing party of the Fiesta Fridas Art Show in Oakland

SATURDAY AUGUST 13TH
Biggest Ever Rosie the Riveter Gathering in Richmond

SUNDAY AUGUST 14TH
Oakland Dragon Boat Festival on Lake Merritt

If you enjoy the East Bay as much as I do and want to purchase a home here, give me a call. I love to help home buyers and sellers find a home wherever their hearts call them.

Pokemon Go Crawl, and more Bay Area Entertainment

Ranch-house

I imagine you’re aware of Pokemon Go, the crazy, interactive game that gets people running around town looking for Pokemons. The Parents” Guide to Pokemons tells us this:

“Pokémon are creatures of all shapes and sizes who live in the wild or alongside humans. For the most part, Pokémon do not speak except to utter their names. Pokémon are raised and commanded by their owners (called “Trainers”). During their adventures, Pokémon grow and become more experienced and even, on occasion, evolve into stronger Pokémon. There are currently more than 700 creatures that inhabit the Pokémon universe.”

But it’s not just kids that “Gotta catch them all”.  Adults play the game too.  All you need is an Iphone and an App, and you’re set for the chase. This week, on Wednesday July 20th, there’s a Pokemon Go Crawl <(register at the link to your right) that will take you on a hunt all around San Francisco. SIX SPECIAL BAY AREA EVENTS THIS WEEK

1681822-poster-1280-peach-tree

Greetings to Summer!

Most of us work year round, and if you work for yourself, it can feel like the days, and even the seasons, flow one into the other with no real differentiation other than wardrobe choices.

But there is something about summer.  Everything seems to slow down.  The longer days provide the illusion of more time. We CAN do a full day’s work and still enjoy a walk by the bay–with the added benefit of a jaw-dropping sunset. Mornings are bright with light and birdsong. Afternoons seem still and calm. Siesta time! Summer time, and, of course, The Fourth of July!

And Summer is the most evocative of seasons. Childhood memories of good times are as plentiful and sweet as peaches on the trees, so I say let’s create some summer memories as adults.  Here’s this weeks list:

TUESDAY JUNE 28TH
Funk Jam at the Ivy Room

WEDNESDAY JUNE 29TH
Free admission to the Alameda County Fair

THURSDAY JUNE 30TH
Off the grid camping at the Presidio

FRIDAY JULY 1ST
Free Summer circus in Oakland

SATURDAY JULY 2ND
Free Theater: Final Night at Theater Rhinoceros

SUNDAY JULY 3RD
World One Festival in El Cerrito

And have a fantastic, safe, Fourth of July!

Six Special Bay Area Events this Week

9WestDRkitLr
gorgeous “great room” off living room at 9 Westminster

These last weekends have been busy for me.  I’ve been holding my new listing in Kensington open.  Holding an Open House is like having a little party. No food, or alcohol to break the ice, but no shortage of topics of conversation. I’ve discussed the local schools  & neighborhood, flow of traffic, commuting convenience, walk score, recreational opportunities and more. Sometimes these questions aren’t easy to answer if the answers are, well, not so great; but this house, with so many positives, is really fun to talk about.

If you’re free this next weekend, stop on by and check it out. For the other days of the week, here’s a list of some fun events and activities:

TUESDAY APRIL 19TH
The NOW festival is in full swing. Click HERE for a list of all the events.

WEDNESDAY APRIL 20TH
If you’d love to “Bring back the ’60s, man”,  you’ll have your chance on Hippie Hill in the City

THURSDAY APRIL 21st
If you love dance you’ll love this: 20/20 in Berkeley

FRIDAY APRIL 22nd
Celebrate Earth Day in Oakland’s annual festival

SATURDAY APRIL 23rd*

SUNDAY APRIL 24th*
See Historic Race Cars on Nob Hill

LOVING THE EAST BAY ON VALENTINE’S DAY

two-hearts-and-flowers-871297272347uFI

There’s a lot to love in the Bay Area, and judging by the crowds at the recent open houses, a LOT of people are recognizing the desirability of living in the Bay Area. To find out what folks other than myself are saying about this terrific area, and in honor of Valentine’s Day, I googled “Things to love about the Bay Area” and I got a photo gallery, some city related sites like “35 reasons to move to Oakland“, “Why I love Richmond California“, and one called “26 things the Bay Area does right” (certainly there’s more than that!)

Among the many things I love about the Bay Area are the unique and/or multi-cultural ways to celebrate almost any holiday. Here’s a short list of activities that could add some all-important spice and variety to your Valentine’s Day if you’re tired of the traditional hearts and flowers.

Whatever you end up doing, I hope you enjoy yourself in our beautiful Bay Area and that your Valentine’s Day everything you hope it will be!

Join my team if you’re looking to buy or sell an East Bay home!

Whatever your real estate need, Call me if you’d like to buy or sell a home in the East Bay. I’m easy to contact.  As so many of us do, I carry my office with me wherever I go, so phone 510-527-0174.  and you’ll probably reach me. Giving Thanks and Giving Back

Jackets on signposts

Looking around at all the opportunities to work and play in the East Bay, and at how abundantly many of us live, it’s clear that we have a lot to be thankful for.  So much so that it’s sometimes easy to forget that we aren’t all equally blessed with the what-it-takes to do whatever-we-want.  There are many who are just scraping by, who are without income, home, food, clothing, hope.

Our society at large struggles to find ways of addressing this huge problem. Lately, on social medial, I’ve seen ideas that help in a small way. There’s the coat on a signpost idea (see the photo), where you leave a coat on a signpost with a note saying that the coat is not lost, it’s a free coat for anyone who needs warm clothing.

I like this idea.  It’s simple, and not embarrassing for either the giver or receiver.  No judgement or assumptions involved. If you’re cold and need a coat, here’s one.  If not, let someone else have it. Maybe leave some bills in the pocket as an extra surprise.

Another idea is something called “Handbags for the Homeless” which, at first blush, looked like a good notion, but after a little research I decided that it might not be the best use of our extra cash. Here is the blog that describes the program and sums up my misgivings about “Handbags for the Homeless” pretty well.  After reading it, I decided it was best to give a few bucks instead.

If you can’t or would rather not do that, you can give some of your time. Thanksgiving  for many has become an opportunity to give back by providing service to those less fortunate. To that end, and because most of us are too busy getting ready for the holidays to need my usual, weekly list of things to do, click here to find a list of ways to volunteer your time to help others in the Bay Area.

However you spend the holidays, I’m wishing you and yours the happiest of Thanksgivings.

If you’d like to use your holiday time off to begin the process of selling or buying a home, give me a call. I’m easy to contact.  As so many of us do, I carry my office with me wherever I go, so phone 510-527-0174.  and you’ll probably reach me. I’m never too busy to take care of you– or your referrals–and I’ll make sure you’re glad you called.
