March is going out like the proverbial lamb after a rainy, leonine beginning.  El Nino did much of what was promised. The flowers abound, bringing cheerful bursts of color to the hillsides (and local gardens), the reservoirs are filling up, and the snow levels near Lake Tahoe are pretty much where they should be.

Still, we need to conserve our water reserves just in case, but for now let’s celebrate the joy of the season with some special Spring activities.

Here’s this weeks list of activities around the Bay Area.

Six Special Bay Area Events This Week

carriage rides in Emeryville
Carriage rides in Emeryville

After a brief hiatus, I’m back to writing about Bay Area Events.

Why? Because there’s something so quintessential about the variety of things to do here. To me, they seem to represent the diversity of lifestyles available when you live here.

For folks who dream of moving here, or for those who just moved in or have lived here for years, I want to present a little taste of what’s available–sometimes for kids but mostly for adults–that continue to make make life in this community sweet, enjoyable and a lot of fun.

Here’s some activities I discovered going on March 22 thru the 27th:

THURSDAY MARCH 24TH

East Bay City Series: El Cerrito

A short description of what it’s like to live in various cities around the Bay Area. Today I’m looking at the city of El Cerrito (94530)

worldone-july-4th
Annual Fourth of July World One Festival at Cerrito Vista Park

El Cerrito is full of surprises. At first blush it may seem like just another San Francisco bedroom community, but dig deeper. This town takes innovations and infrastructure seriously.

Have a look at the newly refurbished roads, community center, swimming pool, and high school. The middle school was moved from an earthquake sensitive area and is being rebuilt at a new location.

Add to that, El Cerrito is committed to quality of life issues like the neighborhood theater, thriving live performance venues, the vibrant visual art and music scene, and enlightened recycling policies.  Every year there is a city-wide garage sale, and the Fourth of July One World festival is a treat filled with fun for kids and adults alike.  Music lovers look forward to the El Cerrito Folk Festival, another free, annual event.

This is a city to take pride in. If you like easy access to BART, great shopping malls that appeal to our Pacific Rim culture as well as the traditional Starbucks, Ross, Boarders, and Pier One shopping opportunities, and lots of amenities for young and old, you’ll love life in El Cerrito.

Homes range from bungalows, to mid-century moderns, to architectural beauties and quirky. personality homes. View homes abound, and great walk score homes occupy the flats.

Find out more about El Cerrito at their city website.
