Ok, Everybody, it’s EXERCISE TIME!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

New Year’s resolutions really should take place after Thanksgiving. That’s when we’re all feeling stuffed and a little guilty as we examine the damage done from the Holiday feasts.

The dog looks us up and down and says: “Ok, boss, let’s get rolling!”

Yep, time for some exercise.

It’s a good thing we have dog.  We HAVE to walk her, so we have to walk ourselves.  In order to alleviate the round the block for the millionth time boredom, we checked online to find some dog-walking variety.  We discovered The Dog Trecker, a great little site that not only alerts you to local dog-oriented entertainment and lodging, but helps you find spots to vacation with Spot.

I’m sure these places allow dog-free folks as well.

Monday One A Day Fun Report for Thanksgiving Week

Happy-Thanksgiving-2014-Celebration-HD-Wallpaper

Of course, this week most of us will be planning to eat way too much, and then, of course, adding to the couch potato sedentry,  the Seahawks and 49ers will be playing Thursday evening.

My best self thinks it would be a good idea to get all of us out of our seats so our walks don’t turn into waddles.  Even if the events I find aren’t technically exercise, if we park far enough away we’ll get  a bit of a workout and get some blood flowing through our clogged arteries.

Let’s see what fun free events we can find for this week.

TUESDAY NOVEMBER 25TH
Snowflakes on Market Street

WEDNESDAY NOVEMBER 26TH
Shreve & Co Art Doll Window Displays in SF

THURSDAY NOVEMBER  27TH
Free Dinner in Oakland.  HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!

FRIDAY NOVEMBER THE 28TH
Calorie Burning Walking Tours

SATURDAY NOVEMBER THE 29TH
Holiday on 4th Street in Berkeley

SUNDAY NOVEMBER THE 30TH

The Berkeley Area: Neighborhoods with the Mostest

When my folks were looking for a home for their growing family, they moved from Berkeley to Suburbia. There they found large lots and  homes in lovely areas, but they didn’t find good public transportation, convenient stores or restaurants to walk to , or public meeting areas outside of the local PTA or swim club.

Now, advantages like these trump “living in a place away from it all”. People are evolving from a car culture to a people culture. Most of my clients want the kind of things found in this “Neighborhood” graphic, and most of these things can be found in the East Bay and Berkeley area.

Thrifty Thursday & Finding Your Dream Home

Warren-Buffett

There’s a feeling you get when you know you’re where you belong.  I see that look in the eyes of my clients when they fall in love with a home.  They start to imagine a life there, rich and full: enjoying their interaction with the neighborhood, relishing the walks they’ll take, and, if they’re parents, the playgrounds they’ll explore and holidays they’ll celebrate with their kids,

I recognize THE LOOK, not just because I’ve been a real estate agent for years, but because it this was the way I felt when we found our home, the one we still live in and the one our kids think of when they imagine being home for the holidays.

We took a risk when we bought our home.  It was a bit out of our price range, but our very savvy agent (my mom) assured us we wouldn’t be sorry.  She must have seen the look in our eyes as we happily poked around the home, yard, and neighborhood.

We were HOME, and we’ve never looked back!

If you’re buying, I know I can help you find your dream home.

If you’re downsizing–wanting to sell a home you love for a more practical choice–I can relate to the difficulty of leaving an old friend, but I’ll make the sale as smooth and painless as possible and find you a new home that you’ll love just as well but for brand new reasons.

If you, your friends or relatives are interested in buying or selling a home in the Berkeley Area,  give me a call at 510-527-0174.  I’m never too busy to take care of you or your referals. I’ll make sure you’ll be glad you did.

Weird Wednesday looks at Mortgages

In-Scotland

Ah, Scotland! The vaunted frugality mocked by Walt Disney’s Scrooge McDuck is a good thing if, through it, you can manage to paint your door red.  I wonder how many Bay Area residents could?

I myself had a Scots/Irish grandparent, and the rest was a fine mix of  primarily German/Scandanavian stock.  You’d think that this blend would produce a financially conservative sort of person, and in some respects I am, but it also built a dad who wanted a good education for his kids. I traded a paid mortgage for college expenses.

Worth every penny.

And speaking of mortgages, if you’d like to find out how much home you can afford in the East Bay here, for your convenience, is a mortgage calculator.  If you need help finding a lender, email me at chris(at)neddersen(dot)com and I’ll send you a list of trustworthy and reliable mortgage brokers.

And don’t forget: if you, your friends or relatives are interested in specific information from a local agent about buying or selling a home in the Berkeley Area,  give me a call at 510-527-0174.  I’m never too busy to take care of you or your referals, and you’ll be glad you did.

One-A-Day Fun in the Bay Area

Are you a pet lover? Especially cats? Then you’ll like this

cat town cafe

Our family has four cats, much to the annoyance of our single dog.  All of our pets are rescued animals, so I was fascinated to see a new place in Oakland dedicated to cat adoptions, coffee, and cookies.

It’s called the “Cat Town Cafe”  and it’s a combo cat rescue and cafe. Here perspective cat owners can enjoy a snack while they’re looking over the likely cats available for adoption.  The Cat Town Cafe just opened in October 26th and if you’d like to visit it’s on the corner of 29th and Broadway in Oakland.

Four Paws Up and MORE POWER TO THEM.  I hope they’re wildly successful.

And now, let’s take a look at some free (or deeply cheap) fun activities available this week in the Bay Area

TUESDAY NOVEMBER 11TH
Veterans Day Celebration at the Presidio

WEDNESDAY NOVEMBER 12TH
Italian Movie Night in Berkeley

THURSDAY NOVEMBER 13TH
Lazar thrill ride at the Embarcadero ($2.00)

FRIDAY NOVEMBER 14TH
Estuary Art Attack in Alameda

SATURDAY NOVEMBER 15TH
Monthly Kid Stuff Swap in Oakland

SUNDAY NOVEMBER 16TH
Golden Gate Park Roller Disco Party

As always, wishing you a great time in the Bay Area!

And don’t forget: if you, your friends or relatives are interested in specific information from a local agent about buying or selling a home in the Berkeley Area,  give me a call at 510-527-0174.  I’m never too busy to take care of you or your referals, and you’ll be glad you did.

Home Makeovers in a Tight Real Estate Market

Driving around Berkeley lately, I’ve noticed a lot of those posts on roof tops giving notice to the neigborhood that this house is gaining a second story.

This might be a way to explain the current dirth of what we call “move-up buyers”: the folks who bought a small one or two starter home in the flats and when more space is needed, they sell that starter home and move to a larger house.

Lately, though, with the home inventory being so meager and the competition for homes so intense, making that small home bigger is the obvious second choice.

I wondered if my analysis was accurate, and discovered agreement on this graphic from the California Association of Realtors .

Weird Wednesday: One way to get out of your mortgage

Charles-Floyd

We’ve seen our share of financial ups and downs, but the real estate market is finally coming back, especially in the Bay Area.  However, not too many years ago many lost their homes in the bubble bursting recession.

I had some clients who needed a softer loan.  They were having financial difficulty and approached their bank for easier terms.  They were long-time customers of their bank and were honest and pro-active about their situation.  The bank refused to readjust their mortgage and informed them that, if worse came to worse, they’d “just take the house”.   Things worked out in the end, but at the time they would have appreciated a man like Pretty Boy Floyd.
